Artist's Comments

I have drawn this in response to Disney's plan to close their hand-drawn animation studios. Walt himself must be spinning in his grave.

I think this quote from Tim Burton best explains my feelings on the subject:

"In Hollywood, they think drawn animation doesn't work anymore; computers are the way. They forget that the reason computers are the way is that Pixar makes good movies. So everybody tries to copy Pixar. They're relying too much on the technology and not enough on the artists. The fact that Disney closed down its cel animation division is frightening to me. Someday soon, somebody will come along and do a drawn-animatied film, and it'll be beautiful and connect with people, and they'll all go, 'Oh, we've gotta do that!'. It's ridiculous."

Amen, brother Tim. Amen. :clap:

Quick note: the character in this drawn is my original creation, Kaylie, or Kay. I'll do a profile pic of her someday. Oh, and that thing she's holding in her right arm is a Tim Burton plushie. I love you Tim!

Truly a sign of the coming apocalypse.

I've been saying for some time now that the least creative place on earth is Hollywood, but the way these studios make their decisions is nothing short of scary.

I work at a theater, and a guy I was working with on the weekend said he was glad they were making more movies on computers because quote-unquote "They look better". That already had me pretty peeved, but THEN he had the audacity to say that Corpse Bride looks cooler than Nightmare Before Christmas because it was all computer animated. I nearly had a coniption fit. The following is the conversation we had:

Me: (looking at a Chicken Little poster on the wall) That movie looks cute.
Jerk: Yah. I'm glad they're making more movies on computers. They look better than the old crap.
Me: :annoyed:
Jerk: Yah, and Corpse Bride looks so much better than that other one, what was it called?
Me: Nightmare Before Christmas. And why do you say that?
Me thinking: Urge to kill RISING...
Jerk: Well I mean the new one's all done on computers. It's not all crappy.
Me(low evil growl): IT'S STOP-MOTION ANIMATION YOU TWIT. DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU CRITIQUE A PIECE OF ART. :anger:
Jerk: :fear:

After that, he didn't talk to me for the rest of the day. I was not sad.

Walt Disney blew out of his grave awhile ago. More specifically, the 90's when Toy Story came about. It was a wonderful movie, don't get me wrong, but the next ten years went by and suddenly all of these 3D movies came out, and in the last five years ALL OF THESE TALKING ANIMAL MOVIES came about and it got soooooooo repetitve. And "Happy Feet","March of the Penguins"(Which I actually liked as a documentary), and "Surf's Up" practically came out during the same year. WHAT WAS UP WITH THE PENGUINS?! 3 penguin movies in one-two years? What were these people thinking?
Thank god for "Enchanted." It gave me a glimpse of hope. And here here to the "Princess and the Frog!"
And my rant is done now. Sorry, sometimes I can't see them coming. ^_^'
Here is another reason to respect the Time Burton, although he is not my favorite animator, he always had his creative outlooks spot on.
